Pirelli MT 66 review - attention to quality, exceptional construction and durability. Read the full review here.

Although cruiser bike riders with Pirelli tires on may get some funny looks from the Harley riding crowd, the performance and quality of Pirelli tires are well worth the response from purists.

The Italian tyre manufacturer, now the 5th largest in the world, has made a name for itself for its attention to quality, exceptional construction and durability. The Pirelli MT 66 is no different.

Described by Pirelli as a tire built to handle inclement weather in an exceptional way, the Pirelli MT 66 certainly did not disappoint.

In dry roads, the Pirelli MT 66’s has a superb grip and corners with much ease, allowing it to breeze through bumps on the road. Grooves and impressions on the road and highway are hardly felt, giving the rider to cruise through at high speeds.

In wet roads on the other hand, the Pirelli MT66’s softer construction allows it to withstand heavy rain without compromising handling and stopping power. It’s in this area where Pirelli tire truly shines, thanks to the company’s focus on wet grip and unparalleled handling. Indeed, the MT 66 has a glue-like response when stopping and turning complemented by a tread design that pushes water away sideways. The Pirelli MT 66 is rated for S-rating speeds of up to 112 miles per hour and H-rating speeds of up to 130 miles per hour.

Yet another impressive feature of the Pirelli MT 66 is its lightweight construction, which improves a bike’s suspension, allowing it to absorb instead of fight irregularities on the road like bumps, grooves and holes, thus increasing stability and comfort for the rider.

But like all soft tires that excel in wet environments, the biggest drawback of the Pirelli MT 66 will be its limited tread life.

Pirelli however, has made sure to engineer the MT 66 to at least rival the lifespan of harder tires, making a point to show off the tire’s durable 4-ply nylon construction. Although it’s doubtful that this tire will last long with hard use in hot and dry environments, the Pirelli MT 66 should last well over 5,000 miles, granted of course they are well taken care of.

The Pirelli MT 66 comes in at a competitive price, making it a good bargain considering the plethora of features it offers. Although designed as a touring and cruiser tire, there’s no reason why it can’t be used for general purposes and more.
