The Dunlop D220 is essentially an upgraded version of the D207, albeit with a facelift, a new name and an improved tread pattern that allows for more efficient water evacuation and significantly longer mileage—a combination not all tire manufacturers manage to achieve.

According to Dunlop, the tire was built to last well over 5,000 to 6,000 tires when taken care of and not abused.

Grip-wise, the Dunlop D220 offers above average performance, but still doesn’t quite match up to Dunlop’s qualifier tires. Still, the Dunlop D220’s tread pattern provides superb wet grip in inclement weather and displaces water well.

Tests show the Dunlop D220 to stick to the surface of the road well, even in torrential downpours. Cornering stability is no problem with the Dunlop D220, but we would still suggest riders to be careful with their throttles especially at steep and lean angles. Response and handling are great and meet expectations of a Dunlop touring tire such as this.

It seems Dunlop’s focus with this tire is durability, engineering the Dunlop D220 with the use of rubber compounds for exceptional resistance to daily wear and tear. Dunlop guarantees the D200 to have a better lifespan than older tire models. Still, nothing beats proper use of a bike to prolong the life of its tires. Though rated to last over 5,000 to 6,000 miles, abuse will definitely cut that lifespan in half.

Considering its attractive price point and mileage rating, the Dunlop D220 is a solid buy for general street use. If you want a tire built to last, the Dunlop D220 should not disappoint, even if you are a self-confessed discriminating rider.

Fans of the D205’s will be enthused with this upgrade, which builds on its predecessor’s performance, adding in extras such as better grip and cornering on wet surfaces.

If you are on a budget, the Dunlop D220, with its features, is a worthwhile investment you would enjoy adding to your bike.
